Product Details

1917 DWM Imperial German Navy Luger P04

This 1917 DWM Imperial German Navy Luger P04 is a rare World War I military pistol chambered in 9mm Luger. Manufactured by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken, this desirable Navy configuration features the distinctive 6-inch barrel and two-position rear sight graduated for 100 and 200 meters.

The serialized components on this firearm are matching, with the exception of the magazine. A non-matching magazine is common on surviving military Lugers because magazines were frequently lost, damaged or replaced during their service life.

Historical Significance

The Imperial German Navy adopted the Luger design during the early twentieth century for use by naval personnel, including sailors, naval infantry and ship-boarding parties. The Navy model is commonly identified as the Pistole 04, or P04, and was produced in substantially smaller numbers than the standard German Army P08.

Navy Lugers are distinguished by their longer barrel and specialized rear sight. Some were also configured for use with a detachable wooden shoulder stock, allowing the pistol to function as a compact carbine when required. Surviving wartime examples are highly sought after by advanced Luger collectors and military-history enthusiasts.

Collector Notes

The combination of the 1917 chamber date, DWM manufacture, Navy-pattern 6-inch barrel and matching serialized components makes this a significant example for a German military pistol or World War I collection. The non-matching magazine should be evaluated in the context of the pistol’s age and military service, as replacement magazines are commonly encountered on surviving Lugers.

Prospective buyers should carefully review all photographs, markings, proof stamps, serialized components and visible finish condition. The photographs show the actual firearm being offered for sale.
